14' aluminum floor adition
ok well here is what i have to work with. I use this boat on these delaware lakes and ponds most of wich are less than 100 acres. Ive previously added the seats to the front and rear tank seats and the blue carped that u see inside that i bought from cabelas. The carped and the seats helped in it being more comftorable during a full days fishing but i find hardly any room to stand up with them there. So i usually find myself taking the front seat off and standing on the front tank seat. On a sunny day pretty hot on the feet.
As you can see right in front there there is a piece of aluminum just big enough to put your 2 feet on to stand up. On the verry bow i have the quick release bracket for a foot controlled MinKota PD 40# trolling motor. The foot controller itself took up just about all the space on the aluminum plate that i stand on.
I knew of someone getting ready to throw away some aluminum angle and thought that it would be a lighter way to frame the bow than using any kind of wood. Im supprised at how light this stuff is and pretty strong too when bolted together. Thinking that im going to be able to secure it to the aluminum piece (the piece with the green outdoor carpet) that is already there. Also im thinking that when i cut out the deck out of ply that i can put a hatch door or something so i can store stuff in there. Not sure if im going to put a battery in there or just like the life vests and such. Will have to see how the weight will work out as far as ballence and all.
The framing in front of the bow tank seat is finished so i am starting to fill in holes in the aluminum tank seat with an aluminum epoxy. Used liquid nails for aluminum that i bought at wallyworld seems to work pretty good. All I did was apply big globs to the holes and let it set up a few hours and then sanded and then applied a second coat of the epoxy and then i will sand it down when it dries completely. The heat index is like 105 degrees today so i have been in and out of the house 300 times LOL. My wife keeps telling me to stop letting the bugs in i say then let me build a pole barn to work in. LOL
here is how im supporting the front frame to the boat. So far everything seems to be coming along pretty easily. I took the boat out with a piece of plywood just sitting on top of the frame and the tank seat to see how it would work out before i got any farther. I was a little worried about the boat being too tippy when i stand up that high on the boat but it was verry stable. Friend of mine told me that if it was a deep v hull i would not be able to deck it out like this because of the boat would be too tippy. So now that i know its going to be ok im going to go ahead with the project.
This is a rough cutting if the deck in front. I used a large piece of cardboard to make a mold like then traced it onto a piece of pressure treated ply. came out pretty close the first try but still have to sand down some of the edges.
This is how i plan to support the back of the casting deck. Just below the pressure treated ply is a 2X6 running the width of the back of the ply right on the edge. Then im using 2x6's cut in half by legnth making like 2x3's with a notch cut out to fit over the aluminum stringer. seems pretty solid.
this is how i cut out the supports to fit between the aluminum stringer and the casting deck to support it.
I plan on closing in that open area with the 3 supports. I will use eather more ply the width of the boat or 2x6's this will also give more strength to the supports themselvs. Inside there i plan to put my onbord charger and batteries. At least 1 battery in there and 1 in the back of the boat when i take it out and figure out how the best way to distribute the weight of the batteries. I also plan to carpet the ply with marine carped that is on the way here from cabelas. There will also be a Pedestal seat installed tward the back of the casting deck. Next setp is to finish fabing the supports and close in the back of the platform. Ill keep yall posted.
im laying carpet and wraping it with a carpet to wood epoxy. That shit sets sooooooo fast!!!!
Im proud of what ive done so far there is no wasted space cause i cut out hatches. At the back of the 2 hatches in the middle im going to put a pedistal and seat. Soon as im dont with the front ill do the same with the back. My goal is for it to be a boat for 2 fishermen comftorably and 3 if need be. So far im proud of myself. Ive been getting up there as the progress goes on and walk around with the boat on the trailor no problem!!
I still need to close the back of the casting deck and all and ive got an aluminum battery holder plus the plastic boxes and the rachet tie downs that come with the boxes. I plan on leaving the batteries in the boat at all times with an onboard charger. I still need to add a pedistal for my seat which i see at wallyworld for like 10 bucks i think ill get that tomorrow. Ive been working at my own pace here and there. Overall i think im doing pretty well!
i just stood there and landed it no prob so im not worried about COG or what everyone is telling me, Im not fishing the great lakes or something. The biggest pond near here is like 100 acres. Mostlt the one i fish is 62 ncguiniss and that is where i got this pig and of course i let him go!!!!!!! Ill get him next year or so i got his tag number though...
i installed a 2 bank battery charger to the inner right hatch. I used a rubber mouse pad in between the charger and the metal tank seat just to make sure there was no shorts or shock to the charger. The charger says its water and shock proof but i figure it wouldent hurt to add some cushon and some rubber so it will never ground out!!
This is how im laying the carpet on the piece that closed in the back of the front deck. Its pretty basic really i will eventually wrap the carpet and liquid nail it to the back of the pannel as well. This method is working pretty well for me.
i installed the back of the deck after the carpet glue dried and the seam between the 2 pannels is perfect. i left the bottom center cut out for draining purposes but i plan to keep this thing under good cover.
