Braces

06-18-2006) Built some braces and got her level. Removed all interior pieces as you can see piled next to and behind boat.

Let the fun begin!

06-18-2006) After removing seats and side panels...the carpet pulled up easily. The wood was totally rotted and the fiberglass simply peeled up. In front of boat...only 1 layer of cloth. The back had 2 layers. It was too hot to get the grinder out but I was curious about what was down below...so I started pulling it out with my hands.

Foam 2x4s

(06-18-2006) I now have about 1/4 of the floor ripped up by hand. I was surprised to see that the used foam 2x4's for the floatation foam. I have never seen this. They feel wet so they gotta go. The stringers, to my surprise, look solid. Let's cross our fingers.

Ripping floor out

(06-22-2006) Still haven't broken out the grinder...but I did use the cordless circular saw to assist in getting more floor out. Looks like the stringers are not going to have to be replaced. YEA! Under floor is devided into 3 sections...front, rear, and transom. There was the "flotation studs" in the front and rear section. There was no way for the water under the floor in the front to make it back to the rear...and from the rear to the transom. I am going to have to design some drainage system into my rebuild.

Transom

(06-22-2006) Looks like a real hack job. I sure hope that this wasn't the original transom/bilge. Looks like the center stringer just stops...and the 2 side ones dont look like they give the transom much support. I am thinking of building a square bilge that is structural to the transom as well as glassed into the stringers.

Foam Removed

(06-22-2006) I removed the foam studs...here are most of them. Some felt perfectly dry while others were soaked. Just for kicks and giggles, I took the heaviest one and dropped it in the kids pool...and....it floated! I might even put some of these back so save on 2-part 4lb foam

We have separation!

(07-26-2006) After tons of grinding and lots of sweat...the floor is removed and most of the grinding is done. I decided to separate the deck from the hull to allow me to get all the wood cut and glassed in at the same time.

Separation (Stern View)

(07-26-2006) Removing the rub rail was a breeze...rubber pulled out easily...and the railing was held with screws. This is gonna be easy, right?? NOPE! The front and sides separated easily. The Transom was glassed in with 24oz woven roven. Three days of grinding around the transon...removing foam on either side...and cutting out the wood..(and with alittle help from my floor jack)...the transom finally separated.

Transom

(07-26-2006) Looking down at transom.

Under deck (bow)

(07-26-2006) Once deck was separated, I found about 2 inches of fiberglass dust coated leaves. The floor up front here is going to be replaced too...yea...more grinding.

Underside of deck

07-26-2006) The support for the deck is glassed in foam 2x's Some of the glass is cracking in the center. I am going to have to re-glass this area for strength.

What a mess!

(07-26-2006) Ok...now I get to clean all this up...and finish up the grinding. Maybe tomorrow I will be ready to start cutting out some templates for the frames, floor and transom.
