The boat originally came with these old Faria guages. They were probably pretty nice in their prime, but now they look terrible and most of them don't work. I think they're beyond repair and need to be replaced.

My wife suprised me with these Red International guages from Teleflex. I had shown her the ones I liked in a catalog at some point and she made a note of it.

The first step was to pull out the dashboard so that I could access the brackets and wiring for the guages. In my case this was pretty easy - it's held on by six screws that are easily accessible.

First comes the fuel guage.

The fuel guage has three posts on the back, one for 12V power, one ground and one sender post. The new posts correspond exactly to the posts on the old guage, so changing it out is a snap.

The temperature guage is next. Again, all of the posts on the back correspond exactly to the old guage, so no trick to change it out. Simply disconnect the wires, remove the mounting bracket, install the new mounting bracket and the new guage. Finally reattaching the wires in exactly the same position as on the old guage.

The old tachometer is one of the guages that didn't work. I'm hoping for the best as I simply attach the old wires to the new guage and see if it works. Hopefully the issue was the guage rather than the engine connections. I realize I should probably replace the cables and connections as well, but laziness and optimism are winning out here.

The speedometer was also one of the broken guages. Again, I'm installing it and trying to reuse the old pickup and pitot tube. The new guage came with a new tube, and I'm reasonably sure I'll have to install it, but laziness wins again so I'm trying to reuse the old one.

Next comes the oil pressure guage. Same story..all posts are the same, so installation is quick and easy.

Finished! All the new guages are in! This project was a lot easier than I expected, and only took about an hour start to finish. All of the new guages seem to working, except for the fuel guage. This is a little disturbing, since it was one of the only ones that worked before! I'll be testing the guage, sender and wiring of the fuel guage in another project soon.
