New Carpet and Upholstery
This time I used a combination of grey and white to create a more professional look, and to reduce the "stark" white appearance.
Heres another view, this one from the starboard side. Both sides now have matching grey "ribs", whereas before they were only present on the starboard side. I think the boat looks much better, much more symmetrical now that these are done this way.
I used grey outdoor carpet from Lowes. It was cheap and has a nice rubber backing that I think will work out fine. I think the grey is a good choice, it matches the new two-toned gunnel upholstery.
This was the old engine cowling. It looked terrible, torn and very stained. I have never wanted to try reupholstering it, because the shape and stitching are complicated a little beyond my scope with a sewing maching. The problem is that with the new carpet and upholstery, it looks even worse than before. I decided it had to be done, so I paid a professional to recover the cowling.
The shop I took it to did a phenomenal job, and it didn't turn out to be too expensive (around a hundred dollars). I provided the vinyl, because I thought it would be cheaper and I wanted to make sure it matched the new gunnel upholstery exactly. I think it looks great, and all told I think it was the right decision to have it professionally done.
