The cover on the stern drive is secured by three bolts.

After the bolts are removed the cover comes off easily.

Three more bolts secure the cover to the water pump housing.

Pull out the three big bolts holding the cover in place and remove the cover

The old impeller came off inside the cover.

Using a pair of pliers, I pulled the old impeller out of the pump casing. It's actually in pretty good condition. I'm not sure how that's possible, but I'm not going to complain. I decided to keep it on the boat as a spare.

This is the new impeller

The post is triangular in shape and corresponds to the shape of the impeller . Line them up, put the pump cover back and three large bolts back on, then replace the cover and those bolts as well. After putting it all back together I threw the muffs on and fired up the engine. Strong streams mean success!!
