1958 Evinrude Bigtwin 35
This is the junction box where the wiring harness for the remote start/stop switch and electric choke button are connedted to the battery and outboard motor. It contains the starter solenoid too.
View of the components and buss strip. This box has not been opened since it was installed in the late 50's There was very little corrosion on the wire, or component terminals. The inside of the box was very corroded and I needed my hand impact driver to cajole the screws to begin backing out. None broke off.
Early type Evinrude Simplex two lever throttle/shifter. This unit had been service every couple of years according to the service manual. It was disassembled, cleaned greased and the cable ends removed so lube oil could be inserted in the cable housing. To work the lube oil into the cable sheath I removed the cable end and put the end of the control wire into an electric drill and turned the wire while spraying lube oil into the sheath. It is amazing how much this improved the movement of the control wire.
