I had a scrap of 1/4" plywood in the garage that was just about the right size to be the tabletop for my new dog food / water bowls.

I found these large stainless steel bowls on sale very cheap. The first step in the dog bowl / feeding station project was to cut the 1/4" plywood in a small rectangle, and cut out two holes for the bowls.

For the legs and trim of the new dog food station, I decided to use scraps of leftover white pine 1x6 boards.

Rather than just going with a box design, or just four legs, I decided to add a radial arc to the ends of the dog food station. I used the holes leftover from the top bowl cutouts to make the radii match perfectly. It makes for a nice subtle accent.

I assembled the pieces with 1" stainless wood screws and stained it with Minwax Red Mahogany stain. I use this color and brand for a lot of my projects, because it makes for a really nice finish on pine. This picture shows the dog food station after two coats of stain.

Here is the dog food feeding and watering station after staining. The bowls are dry fit in and look pretty good. All that is left to do is apply a couple of coats of polyurethane and it should be done.

Here's the feeding station with a couple of coats of polyurethane applied. As soon as it has dried completely, I'll put the bowls in. Then the dog food / water dish holder will be done.

Here's the finished dog feeding / watering station at it's permanent home in the kitchen. 2 coats of stain, 2 coats of polyurethane, 2 stainless steel bowls, pedigree mature adult formula dog food and water all in place and ready for my Labrador!

My dog seems to like it! I was concerned that it might be a little to high for her, but it seems perfect. She eats and drinks out of it. It looks good and really helps to keep her bowls and eating area more tidy than it would be without it. One addition I may make is an amphitheatre style backing for each bowl. My dog has a tendency to dig her food out and it comes up behind the bowl. A round backing would solve that problem, but that's a project for another day!
