Removing Pinstripes/polishing
The bottom is very rough and needs a bit of care. I will be using some putty to smooth out the rough spots and will probably paint it with balck anti foul paint. Not because it will ever get fouled but, for the fact it is black and is made for boat bottoms.
From the strake at the top is good glass below is very rough stuff. I will either fill and sand or try to polish.
I installed the keel guard over some fresh epoxy. Epoxy was cured first. I then sanded and washed with acetone and installed per the instructions.
In the picture there are 6 seperate stripes!!! I had only 1 that was on top of another. I had a hard time getting these stripes off. I think it was they had dried in the sun as the bottom stripes were easier.
This was purchased at Harbor freight for 19 dollars! Am very happy with it. It makes stripe remove easier as does having finger nails. The plastic scraper I tried melted. :)
>>>Be careful!!!<<<
BURNED FINGERS HURT!
As you can see I can sometime pull more than 1. The issue i get was ever 4 or 5 inches there was a nick or cut in the stripe and thats all you get! So took a while to pull a stripe.
It was easier to remove 1 stripe at a time. But you had to come back and do the same thing again and again and....
The stripes are finally gone but now I get a new problem. The glue is still there. Will need to get it off somehow.
The easy way to remove the stripes is with a heatgun. A hair dryer works but is slower a lot slower. The Gelcoat is still dull.
This stuff is nasty and sticky. It is hard to pickup and throw away but I was happy to do so.
I had 4 piles of this stuff. They could have saved a few dollars if they had not gone so crazy with the pinstripes!!!
I just wated to see how the compound would work.
I have not done the polishing yet. All I can say is OH MY!
