Remote Safe Fuel System for boats.
A 1960 safe remote fuel system fitted in a boat.Image shows motor installed midships in boat with carburettor and fuel pump installed in box sealed from the inside of the boat and drained overboard. The fuel is pumped along the out side of the hull from the outboard well at rear which is drained overboard.Carburettor is connected to motor with a ram tube.Chrysler produced cars with resonator tubes in 60`s.modern cars use ram induction.Early VW used long induction tubes. This simple unit was used for 25 years.New technology makes the system better, using liquid injected gas or gasoline.Electronic Engine Management Systems can be used. There are many ways of installing and configering the system in boats.
Fuel is stored in outboard well which is drained and ventilated overboard and fuel is pumped along outside of boat to carburettor fitted on the side of the boat.
This 1960`s image shows the Remote Fuel System fitted in a boat with motor fitted mid-ships,under the seats and table. The carburettor and fuel pump is fitted in the closet at the left of the seats, crakcase is vented to carburettor and the fuel tank is fitted in the covered outboard well which is drained and vented overboard. There are no accessories of any sort to do with the fuel system inside the hull of the boat. The boat has a Pivotal Drive Propulsion fitted which can be lowered down 20 degrees or lifted up level with the keel for shallow water work or run as a surface drive propulsion as in the picture. This boat can have the motor fitted mid-ships or in the covered outboard well and a fuel cell for the fuel drained and vented overboard. There are few places this boat can not go.
When the motor is fitted in the outboard well which is sealed from the inside of the hull and drained and vented overboard, the remote fuel system is fitted there with long runners for very slow ideling and low rpm torque, and short runners tuned for 6000-7500 RPM with a switch over between the two.The long runners charge the cylinders well and very slow idle is great for a boat. The fuel cells are fitted midships in the hull and are sealed from the inside of the hull and drained and vented overboard.
Chrysler Valiant motor had resonator tubes including big V8.
Renault motor had long induction tubes for formula 1 racing (some 1500 cc motors developed more than 800 HP)
and most people know what early VW motors look like with long induction tubes and their good low rpm torque.
Early VW motors had single carburettor and long induction tubes and had good torque at low RPM which is good for a boat to get over the hump to plane.
This image shows a pushrod Falcon six motor which uses a large plenum chamber and bolted on alloy runners that benefit mid-range torque.Long runners can give more than 100 percent volumetric efficiency which can be free power increases up to 20 percent and long runners can give performance motors enhancements such as better cylinder charging at low RPM and idle speed can be reduced to a slow tick-over,ideal for a boat.A carburettor (and EFI systems) can be installed in a safe place sealed from inside of the boat.A combination of short and long runners with a switch over would give benefits in a greater RPM range.
