  • 1972 Scat-Craft Restoration

    Submitted by user patuxent

This was my grandfather's old fishing boat. He passed away in 1987 while on a fishing trip with this boat. My father inherited it from him and it has been sitting ever since. I even found an empty Black Label beer can in the boat, quite likely grand dad's last beer. If you ask me, having "the big one" after a full day of fishing with your buddy and a few cold beers is a pretty damn good way to go. :) The boat needs a lot of work, but in the end it will be a great boat for the family. Meanwhile it's a cool project to work on and a nice place to start teaching my son some basic mechanics and the value of fixing things.

  • 1966 Owens

    Submitted by user kevin500

Refinishing a 1966 Owens 14' Fibreglas and 40 HP Viking, not for show, but for fishing. The boat was built in Dixie, Ontario, (now called Mississauga, which to us Northerners is part of Toronto) in 1966 by Owens, which was bought by Brunswick several years earlier. I have been unable to find any more info on the boat.

  • Pivotal Drive ..

    Submitted by user arthur

A unique propulsion system for boats.Boating in the shallow sand bar filled harbours and streams of the North Island of New Zealand in the 1950-60`s gave many problems so a jet unit was purchased. The operation manual pointed out that at least 100 HP was needed and sand and weeds and mud would not be good for the jet unit and steering required power to be maintained at all times and speed was needed to negotiate shallows, and loss of power meant no steering at all.A V bottom hull was preferred. The jet unit was not going to cope so it went back to the retailer.A light weight propulsion was needed,so a pivoting drive was tried and found to be very good.
