1969 Revel Craft Cruiser

The project boat is a Kellercraft, 5.5m (18 feet), around 1980s model, near 20deg deadrise at the transom, 2.25m at the shoulders. The Kellercraft brand were an Australian designed and built hull, quite a few of these boats were powered by stern drives and also Hamilton jets. If the hull reminds you of a Carribean or Bertram or a Hamilton you would be correct as to the best of my knowledge as these all came from the same factory or a sister factory here in Australia. The boat will be used for spearfishing, fishing, skiing and allround general family and friends fun here on the Great Barrier Reef just of Cairns where I live. I plan show this project here without too many large jumps in work completed, hopefully.

This restoration project was intended to bring this old MFG Niagara back to safe service and keep the '60's look and feel. I did not intended to do a museum piece restoration. I wanted a boat that was reliable and safe for family outings. This boat was built to have fun in. And we do! The project was started in September 2003 and the boat was mostly complete and in use by the middle of summer of 2004. There are still some minor changes that I want to make, as well as make a Navy top, make a removable hard top, and install a permanent gas tank. We will see how things pan out. Wish me luck, Mark.

1985 23 foot Sea Ray Cuddy Cru
Submitted by user jimmythekid
I bought this boat knowing it some rotted cushion backs and some other problems, I am good at repairing stuff, so I thought no big deal, I got it on a good deal (or so I thought). I went to replace the cushions and some other trim work, after starting I found more alot more rot thatn I first thought I will have about 1000.00 in materials, and lots and lots and lots of labor time. I took it out of the water in early October 2004, I work it most every weekend, all weekend, by far the biggest headache was ripping out all the old stuff, putting in the new stuff is pretty straightforward once I got used to working with fiberglass and resin, and later on foam. What follows is what I have done to it so far...

A 1973 18'6" Sea Nymph Commander. 21 deg hull. This was bought from a dealer after it had been repossessed. It has a Volvo Penta AQ170c & 280 Stern drive fitted. This took a few hours to get running correctly but the power unit is sweet. I was hampered severely by persons unknown who had messed up the wiring to an unbelievable degree. Lucky for me my SELOC manual arrived in the mail from the USA on the day I started to get the engine running and I was able to rewire all the harness to the correct pins and make some noises. The hull is glass with a wooden topside from the deck up. The hull was available from the factory in this form only for part of 1973/74. Although we think that there was some Australian input into the design of these boats they were built in huge numbers in New Zealand up until about 1989. There are also about 4 major design changes to the cabin structure. The design was also offered in 16'6" ( Sea Nymph Ranger) form as well. The underwater shape is more or less the same in todays production boats. It has a reputation as a very good blue water hull. The project is to rebuild the cabin into something more usable. I am also gathering up the parts required to change out the engine to a V/P AQ225 (Chev SB 305) and will eventually replace the existing engine with that.

Remote Safe Fuel System for boats.
Submitted by user arthur
Inboard petrol motors installed in boats have always been unsafe. This is a safe system not requiring gas detectors or bilge blowers, but they can be fitted for extra safety and ventilation. This is an idea from the 1960`s and can be brought into the age of modern technology to include EFI systems.
