  • 1980 16' Open Bow Restoration

    Submitted by user lakedawgs

Got a 1980 16' open bow with a 1983 115hp Johnson from my father in-law. Motor seems good but the boat is pretty stripped down; no carpet, seats, padding, just a shell.

Not a true to showroom restore, but a cleaning up and retrofitting to keep her somewhat close to her original and allowing for some "newer" convenience, not to mention ensuring her seaworthiness...I have stripped all the wiring from the bilge, blower, bow and stern lights, interior lights and horns because they were a train wreck and will make a proper harness and rewire to a new switch panel. I have also dc'd all the gauges, and ignition wiring from dash to stern mainly because there were so many jumpers and pigtails added as after thoughts I am sure I have a better chance of shorting and catching fire than actually sinking the damn thing...after the bloody knuckles and bloody cussing I actually found in that mess the original wiring harness....bonus????...to be continued....

  • 1958 Alumacraft Open C

    Submitted by user Trackbolt

Restoration of "Andy's Boat", a 1958 Alumacraft Model Open C 15' boat. Restoration incluces cleaning and polishing of bare aluminum hull, refinishing oak dashboard, and transom wood, Origional forward controls, steering wheel, key start and throttle/shift are to be refurbished. Origional motor is a 1958 Evinrude Bigtwin 35. Motor is in excellent condition and will only need water pump kit, ignition coils, points/condensers and plug wires. The boat had spent its entire life fishing the salt waters of the Chesapeake Bay, Patuxent River and Potomac Rivers in MD. It even made it to Ocean City MD and Wachaprague Va back in the 60's;. The salt has pitted the bare aluminum finish especially on the inside where the washing was'nt as thorough or frequent. I hope to polish the exterior aluminum surface to a point where the pitting is not as noticable. I have sanded a couple of areas to test how much work it will be. It's going to take some time;.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well I was given a 1984 16' starcraft boat just had to go pick it up in Galveston Texas. I was told it was an Aluminum boat so i figured i couldnt gor wrong with Aluminum prces. I went and picked it up with its paper work and to my surprise doesnt look to bad. It had sank Motor was seized but the floor looked solid and the transom looks good. By the way it sank because the plug was left in it for about three months and we had lots of rain.
